I found this list just a couple hours before my first neurofeedback session. I’ve added my comments in italics. I’m not able to really do all of these for the first one, but I’ll try next time. I also plan to ask my practitioner for any preparation tips she may have and will update that here:

Do these to prepare for Neurofeedback Session

  • Get a good night sleep. – Makes sense to me.
  • Eat a healthy meal 1-2 hours prior to testing. AVOID SUGAR.  – I’m guessing the rationale is to ensure your brain has fuel and nutrients it needs without the sugar crash.
  • Have clean dry hair without any hair products in it. Use Shampoo only! No Conditioner.  – This is to ensure the electrodes stick to your head : )
  • Take all prescription medication as prescribed by your Dr. – Makes sense!
  • If taking any anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medication, talk to Doctor about possibly weaning off them before qEEG. This provides a clearer picture of the brain for optimal treatment planning.Going off of this type of medication can be very dangerous if not done carefully and under medical supervision. Be sure you talk to your doc!
  • Please provide a list of current regular medications along with the dosage. Please provide last time each were taken. – Okay
  • Avoid non-prescription medication 12 hours prior to qEEG. – Okay
  • Avoid Caffeine 4 hours prior to testing. – I guess I’ll have to make my appointments in the afternoon ; )
  • Avoid nicotine 3 hours prior to testing. – No problem here.
  • Avoid alcohol usage 12 hours prior to testing. – Good to know!
  • Avoid marijuana usage 72 hours prior to testing. – No problem here.
  • Remove contacts if worn. – This is odd, not sure I have any idea why this is.
  • Wear comfortable clothing. – I’ll be bringing a hoodie just in case it’s cold.
